Jeff Hunt
Owner/Governor, Ottawa 67's Hockey Club
In 1998 Jeff became the owner of the Ottawa 67’s Hockey Club. Jeff’s primary goal was to double attendance. He sold out the home opener, which was the largest crowd ever to watch the 67’s play in Ottawa. Attendance for his first season was up 120%.
In May of 1999 the Ottawa 67's were privileged to host the Memorial Cup, the premiere event in Major Junior Hockey. Jeff set out to make this tournament, the most successful to date. The event was sold out four days after the 67’s were awarded the tournament and broke the previous Memorial Cup record to become the highest attended Memorial Cup in its 81year history. Now Jeff’s turned his attention to the World Jr. Hockey Tournament which will be held in Ottawa December of 2008 to January 2009.
In the spring of 1999 Jeff’s was awarded the Ontario Hockey League Executive of the Year Award. This was followed by the Canadian Hockey League Executive of the Year Award in June of 1999
While his first year in the league was impressive, Jeff was not content to let things be and has continued to increase the season ticket holder base as well as the average attendance, year after year setting both OHL and CHL attendance records. Since owning the team, Jeff has brought the attendance from 2,200 to 9,386.
